I made a commitment that I would blog every day. Here’s the problem. It’s 9:45pm. I’ve been at it since 6:15am and I’m exhausted. I want to finish this beer and go to sleep.
Should I take my computer to bed and work in bed?
Should I call it a night and break my commitment to blog everyday?
What would you do?
I am going to take my laptop into my bedroom and blog in bed.
I love working in bed because at least if I’m in bed, I’m next to my hubby. If I stay in the office, then I feel lonely (even with Amigo sleeping on his bed behind me). Plus by the time I get to bed, Chris is sound asleep and he’s already kinda snoring – so I have to reach over and squeeze his nose shut, so he stops. So not only do I miss falling asleep with him – I’m now torturing him with my nose-squeeze snore-stopping technique.
And one of the worst habits you can develop is going to bed at a different time than your lover. There’s no faster way to feeling like roommates.
Chris on the other hand, will not work in bed. He considers it a violation of our bedroom space. But I hate that. If I go to bed first, I know the office lights are glowing and he’s up with a furrowed brow crunching numbers. I lie there and think about him. I read for a bit, hoping he’ll come to bed. And when he doesn’t, I yell out – “Chris – you coming?” I wish he’d just bring his laptop to bed and crawl beside me. At least then I’d get to fall asleep next to him instead of alone.
So, yes, I blog in bed. I didn’t write this one there – but I have written others there….and will keep doing it.
My beer is nearly finished and so’s this blog. Plus, I think Chris is still awake and I’d rather have sex than type any more. But I am curious – what your bedroom blogging rules are…
Do you work in bed? Does your partner? I’d love to hear from you.
Off to bed xx
Mel

I do EVERY blog in bed….it’s like an office most of the time. I wake up so early and it’s still cold so I can’t say that I want to get outta there!

Anyone who doesn’t blog in bed isn’t a real blogger! (as I peck away propped up on a pillow with one eye on my monitor and the other on CNBC!)
Nope! Was a school principal for 14 years. Learned not to bring work home to have balance.
Now as Ed Consultant, I have more freedom, but don’t work, blog or watch TV in bed. In fact, we made a commitment, not to have TV in bedroom 10 years ago. We keep that space sacred. We read, ( I also journal write) there only….as well as the other fun stuff! On your blog everyday thing…I don’t agree. Too much pressure! In the educational community that is BIG on Social Media, that I’m a part of… we just don’t support that mentality. Instead we blog on certain days of the week, blog after educational conferences, or better still…blog when the spirit moves us! The only real piece we make a commitment to is to keep blogging. And to be sure not to let too much time go between blog posts. Okay…my 2 cents. Luv your stuff, Mel.
Hi Mel-
No, I never ever work in bed, not because I have any great rules about it but because I am incapable of intelligent thought after about 7 pm…I get up around 5 am and any writing in my day happens early early, often with only my dogs gathered round, before anyone else is up. But I agree with your husband… my computer never comes into the bedroom, mostly because by the time I get back there I am only interested in two things.
Great seeing you at Spark and Hustle this week and congrats on the book… it’s powerful and gorgeous like you. xox Lisa
Does it count that my desk is five feet from the bed? I can stand up in my chair, aim, and dive into bed if I wanted. At any time. I often do. These days, every chapter I finish on divorcing with children makes me want to crawl under the covers so it’s actually quite convenient.
try an orange slice in that blue moon:-)
Nope, only because I don’t have the technology to do so! I do keep a pad at my bedside so I can at least jot down those ideas I think I’ll remember the next day.
I find I don’t blog in bed because it just uncomfortable and I can’t think or work that way. I like to sit at my desk when I am working. I would rather go to bed when I am tired and get up super early to blog or do what I have to do.
THATS NOT THE ONLY BUSINESS IM GETTIN DOWN TO IN BED ALL DAY!
:p
I try and get as pretzeled up as possible, why not?
